Energy Power AM 1395 back on the air

Energy Power AM in Dublin is back on their original frequency of 1395 kHz broadcasting over the weekends. Probably they will make tests on 1476 kHz during one of the coming weekends as some station is causing problems. In Dublin 1476 kHz seems very clear. I will be informed by the station CE.

Radio Seagull 1602 now on the air from the high seas

For those of you who liked listening to offshore radio in the 60s, 70s, and 80s a reminder that Radio Seagull has begun its live broadcasts from its radio ship, the LV Jenni Baynton, daily at 1700-0500 UTC on 1602 kHz and online worldwide at radioseagull.com and iTunes. These will continue through 31st August. For the live broadcasts, the web feed is using the mediumwave signal, thus giving you the feel of listening on mediumwave wherever you are. Coming up tonight at 2300 UTC is Bob Noakes, formerly of RNI and Radio Caroline. The schedule changes each day, so everyone is on the air but at different times. I'll be on board for the whole of next week, and really looking forward to it. Joining us next week is Carl Kingston, who some of you will remember from the Voice of Peace. For updated schedules and photos visit our special Facebook page - Radio Seagull Offshore 2014. (Andy Sennitt writes on Facebook via Mike Terry, MWDX via Tore Larsson, ARC)

Cesky Impuls 981 kHz, formerly Radio Impuls AM

Now it was announced that the new station will be called “Cesky Impuls” (Czech Impuls). Last time I mentioned Radio Impuls AM, but it was a “working version”. The exact starting day of the new station it not known yet, now they mention September or October at the latest. Not mentioning tests in August anymore. Format: Czech+Slovak (pop) music with news. Bretagne 5 soon on 1593 kHz?

The first step towards a new AM station? After six months, the Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel has just published the result of a public survey which was established on March 19, 2013 as a foundation for an application of MW radio in Ile-de-France, Aquitaine and Bretagne. At the moment, although no definite date has been set for the application, it is a step forward for the MW transmissions of Bretagne 5. The board of the station will now be asking the CSA to set a date for further discussions about establishing a MW station in our region. (Bretagne 5 via Bengt Ericson, ARC)

Brazilian AM stations about to switch to FM

Hej!!

Tråkigt for MV-DX:are!!

Hälsningar från Brasilien

Nils Olsson

Hello!

According to the TV news, president Dilma has signed a decree which enables all Brazilian MW/AM stations to switch over to FM. As of January 1, 2014 the stations can apply for switching to FM.

Associação Brasileira de Rádios e Televisão believes that around 90% of the 1784 stations currently broadcasting on MW/AM in Brazil will be switching over to FM. Initially, the stations will be able to broadcast both on AM/MW and FM.

After five years the stations must decide whether to switch to FM permanently or to continue on FM. They may also decide to stay on MW/AM and are allowed to expand their prescence in this band.

Some of the motives for the decree is better audio quality and less interference plus the fact that FM transmissions, contrary to AM/MW radio, can be received on cellular phones.

Tough for AM/MW buffs, indeed!

Greetings fom Brazil,
Nils Olsson (Nils Olsson, formerly of ARC, via Bengt Ericsson, ARC)
