Dutch broadcaster Radio Seagull announces on its website: “Starting Sunday April 1st 2012 Radio Seagull will be back on 1395AM. In spite of the date, this is not a joke. Every day, from 7 am ’till 7 pm (0500-1700 UTC), Radio Seagull programmes will be going out via 1395AM. From 7 pm until 7 am, Radio Seagull will be on 1602AM as normal. The stereo webcast will also remain unchanged running 24 hours a day. The transmitter site is the last remaining radioship in the world -the LV Jenni Baynton.” (Andy Sennitt, RNW Media Network 21.3.2012 via Tore Larsson, Arctic Radio Club)

VENEZUELA
The missing signals from this country may not entirely be caused by propagation conditions.
As reported by José Elías Gómez, several stations in his area in E. Venezuela are having problems to make ends meet.  Failing to comply with power bills may cause forcible close down. Says José Elías,
“1210 Radio Anzoátegui, 760 Radio Puerto La Cruz and 870 Unión Radio Deportes are virtually eliminated”.  (Sintonía DX)  (HK Henrik Klemetz, Arctic Radio Club)

LT9 Parkalompolo Fan Club

“Volvo” was the magical word which was heard on a distant Latin American station during a DXpedition to Parkalombolo, northern Sweden.  Alf Persson, wanted to know why, and once he learnt the reason he wanted to send them a reception report.  As a longstanding member of the Volvo DX Club he felt that was his “special reason” for contacting the station.  LT9, Radio Brigadier López, in Santa Fe,  Argentina, 1150 AM, is heard in most of northern Argentina during their nightly programme devoted to truck drivers.  Atilio “Moncho” Aranda has a captive audience as shown on the programme web page and several You tube videos.  His programme “Noche luz y Moncho” occasionally also reaches listeners in the country where the first Volvos and Scanias were produced. At http://nocheluzymoncho.com.ar/images/galeria56/Galeria56.html  you may listen to the original recording as picked up in Parkalombolo, read the letter sent to the station and watch a number of pictures, not only of Volvo trucks but also of about a dozen fervent Parkalompolo expeditionaries.

The greeting “Moncho” devoted on the air to his distant listeners can be heard here
.
N.B.  The Argentine web page cannot be seen correctly on Google Chrome.  It seems to work OK on Internet Explorer and also on Mozilla Firefox. (HK Henrik Klemetz, Arctic Radio Club)

Finnish listeners picking up Argentina on MW

There is a note related to three Finnish DXers in the electronic edition of Conexión Digital,  No. 658, March 11, 2012.  Rubén Guillermo Margenet, in Rosario, who authored the report, asks me and Dario Monferini to bring it to the attention of the DXers concerned, and also to Mika Mäkeläinen and Jim Solatie.

Writes Rubén that In his talk show on Radio 10, on March 7, 2012, Ronald Hanglin told his listeners that Radio 10 has been heard in northern Finland  by Jarmo Patala and Vesa-Jussi Rinkinen, who sent the station an email detailing the circumstances related to this extraordinary event. Margenet notes that Hanglin does not seem to understand what DXing is all about.   He was impressed to learn about this married couple (sic) extend  a 700 metre wire in the Arctic wilderness in order to pick up far away MW signals.

In an additional note, Alejandro Alvarez, from Neuquén says that Pekka Hakala in an email to LV7 in Tucumán confirmed (sic) that he had been listening to the station from Finland.  See  the note at http://www.amplitudmodulada.com.ar/noticia4616.html

Horacio A. Nigro in Montevideo, Uruguay, completes the picture by explaining the excellence of Nordic DXing, as shown by individual DXers from their local listening site or during expeditions to sites such as Lemmenjoki , in Finland, Kongsfjord, in Norway, and Parkalompolo, in Sweden, finally linking readers to blogs related to these sites. Media Network closing down

A sad message from our friend Andy Sennit:

This Weblog will be closing on Saturday 24 March 2012.I shall be taking early retirement from RNW at the end of April. Due to the new mandate of RNW effective on 1 January 2013, it will no longer be possible for the organisation to provide coverage of international media news.In April I shall be writing a series of articles reflecting on the changes in international broadcasting since I started appearing on the Media Network radio show in 1981, and looking ahead to the coming decade. The articles will be published on the RNW English website.

If you have any memories of RNW or other international broadcasters that you would like to share, I will be pleased to hear from you at MediaNetwork@rnw.nl and I'll try to include them in the articles. The Weblog contains over 15,000 media news items published since October 2003. It will remain online as a searchable archive. To prevent spam, it will no longer be possible to add comments, but nearly 14,000 comments already received will still be available. Chicago AM stations off air on March 10

Denne info skal visstnok ha kommet til NRCs epostliste. Jeg fikk den fra en av mine bekjente på fb:
This is DIRECTLY from the Chief Engineer at WGN.
"The scheduled date for this sign off is 2am-5am, Saturday morning, March 10. That is after midnight Friday night/Saturday morning. It is not this Saturday; it is March 10."
Please pass this along to other email lists, bulletin boards and groups. WGN will be off air completely during this time as will WSCR 670 and WBBM 780.
